Located at the East End of George Street in what was the hub of Edinburgh's financial world, but in an area that is now more characterised by its pubs, restaurants, and designer shops including Harvey Nichols. The brand new St James Quarter shopping centre is nearby.
In the centre of the St Andrew Square is its public garden (also square-shaped) with a towering Roman column at its centre. This is the 42 metres tall Melville monument (built in memory of Henry Dundas, 1st Viscount Melville).
