About

On his death in 1624, George Heriot, court Goldsmith to King James VI, left money to fund a school to care for the 'poor fatherless bairns' and children who had fallen on hard times.

The school is a turreted building surrounding a large quadrangle and built out of sandstone.

Some say the school was the inspiration for Hogwarts school in the Harry Potter books, what do you think?
