Standing at the end of Edinburgh's historic Royal Mile, this fine palace is the home of Scottish royal history. Visitors can explore 14 magnificent historic and State Apartments, the romantic ruins of the 12th-century Holyrood Abbey and remarkable royal gardens, all with a complimentary multimedia tour in ten languages.

Entry included with Royal Edinburgh Ticket but as a working Royal Palace it can be closed at short notice, when unavailable Royal Edinburgh Ticket holders get access to The King's Gallery plus a Palace Guidebook.
(This does not apply on Tuesdays and Wednesdays when the Palace is closed and no alternative is offered)

The King's Gallery is closed until 16 October 2025 . From 17 October - 1 March '26 the exhibition will be-'Drawing the Italian Renaissance'

Accessibility Information

Mostly wheelchair accessible including the café and gift shop. Mary Queen of Scots Chamber only accessible by a spiral staircase but video and audio information is available. Assistance dogs permitted. Disabled toilet facilities available. Some staff have hidden disability training.
